The objective of the National Society and this chapter is to promote Historic Preservation, Education and Patriotism.  The Highland Springs Chapter, NSDAR accomplishes the majority of its work under a committee system on projects of interest to our chapter. At this time, we have committee projects that focus on conservation education, support for veterans, and engagement with our community.

Service to America Committee Projects

Daughters gathered at the Pioneer Memorial Cemetery to fulfill our project goal to clean and help preserve the gravestones of Civil War veterans buried at the Cemetery, some of which were almost completely covered in dirt.

Oak Tree Restoration Projects

In 2022 chapter members collected acorns from a 200-year-old oak grove burned in the Holy Fire. The grove is part of a 10-acre restoration project created and managed by the Riverside Conservation Authority. The acorns were floated to determine viability and held under refrigeration until they sprouted.

As the oaks sprout, Daughters plant them in containers and upsize them as they grow.

By early 2025 the oaks were tagged,  measured, and upsized to larger containers.

In approximately two years the saplings will be planted in the conservation area.

Butterfly Way Station Project

Chapter members sowed milk weed and wild flower seeds which were later planted in our chapter's pollinator garden.

The artwork on the seed packets for this project designed by a member's granddaughter.

Highland Springs Chapter encourages participation of our youth.

The chapter was awarded a grant for milkweed that was planted together with beneficial native and flowering plants.

In October 2023, our garden was certified as an official Monarch Waystation by Monarch Watch and is included in the Monarch Waystation Registry.

Our first inhabitants arrived in December, 2023.
